The jersey was personalized for Maschio and his teammates to mark the 45th anniversary of the Intercontinental Cup victory in 1967. They were presented, along with honorary membership cards, before a first division match by the club’s president at the time, Gastón Cogorno. (See photos)

BIO: “Maschio’s return to Racing Club was initially criticized by some officials who considered him past his prime, but coach Juan José Pizzuti—a former teammate—defended him. Maschio made his debut in the sixth round of the 1966 Argentine championship. Racing made history by going 39 matches unbeaten, a record in the professional era of Argentine football. River Plate finished as runners-up, but “”José’s Team”” (*El Equipo de José*) had such an exceptional campaign that no other team could have beaten them to the title. Maschio played 31 matches, scored 6 goals (including one in the derby against Independiente, a 2–0 victory), and provided 6 assists.
In 1967, Racing Club won the Copa Libertadores, with Maschio scoring 6 goals during the tournament. The final was an intense series against Uruguay’s Nacional; Maschio played a key role in the second goal of the deciding match, which came from a cross by Juan Carlos Cárdenas that Norberto Raffo converted into a goal. Months later, Racing Club became the first Argentine club to win the Intercontinental Cup by defeating Scotland’s Celtic. Maschio shone particularly brightly in the second leg, where he was tasked with marking the talented Bobby Murdoch.”.
