In addition to being worn in this friendly match prior to the 1962 World Cup in Chile, this jersey served as the official away kit for the tournament; although it was never actually worn in a match, it was held by the kit men, ready for use at the World Cup. And in the end, Maschio took the jersey with him, and it has been kept safe by his family to this day.

The jersey was given by Humberto Maschio’s family to Matchday Auctions to be auctioned. (See photos and videos)

BIO: Humberto Dionisio Maschio was an Italian-Argentine footballer and coach who played as a forward and midfielder. He represented both the Argentine and Italian national teams. He was a legend at Racing Club, where he was part of the historic squad managed by Juan José Pizzuti that won the Primera División title in 1966, as well as the Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup in 1967.

He made his debut with Quilmes in 1953. A year later, he made his Primera División debut with Racing Club. In 1957, he joined Bologna, beginning his career in Italian football. He subsequently played for Atalanta, Inter Milan, and Fiorentina. He returned to Racing Club in 1966, winning the Primera División championship that same year. The following year, he won the Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup.

With the Argentine national team, he competed in the 1955 Pan American Games, winning the gold medal. He was part of the “Angeles Carasucias” forward line that won the 1957 Copa América (then known as the South American Championship). He also played in the 1962 FIFA World Cup with the Italian national team.

After retiring as a player, he became a coach. He achieved great success with Independiente, winning the Copa Libertadores and the Interamerican Cup in 1972.
